Their second release on Yala! Records, “All I Need Is Some Sunshine In My Life” sees the band reimagine a Dixie Nightingales hit. ![]() YAK RETURN WITH A INCREDIBLE RENDITION OF 60’S GOSPEL CLASSIC; ALL I NEED IS SOME SUNSHINE IN MY LIFE. READ OUR REVIEW. YAK released their debut album only last year, yet they headed straight back into the studio to get underway with a follow up. We may not have heard anything from this sophomore yet, but that doesn’t mean YAK haven’t treated us to some new music. Their recent release is an incredible take on the gospel classic ‘ All I Need Is Some Sunshine In My Life’ by The Dixie Nightingale’s. Produced by Tame Impala’s Jay Gum Watson, the track captures all of the best parts of YAK and combines them together. With dark, brooding overtones and doubled up vocals. ![]() The track is certainly made their own. Oli Burlsem provides his usual intense singing and fuzzy, distorted guitars. The chorus is actually such a sing-a-long moment you find yourself familiar with the lyrics upon first listen. The B-side to the track is ‘ Wait and See‘ a slow, apologetic ballad and a Lee Hazelwood cover. Listen to both the tracks below. The trio have shared new single ’All I Need Is Some Sunshine In My Life’, their first release on the Maccabees-affiliated Yala! The song was premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio 1 last night (13th September), and is an adaptation of The Dixie Nightingales’ gospel classic of the same name. “A loved one departed and on the way out sent me this song, so we ended up recording a delirious version in the blistering heat of Perth,” Yak frontman Oli Burslem explains. “I love the original Dixie Nightingales’ version, it reminds me of songs like Wendy Rene’s ‘After Laughter’, which I imagined was recorded in the same studio with maybe even the same people playing.” Yala! Label boss and former Maccabees frontman Felix White expands: “I first saw Yak when they supported us in New York,” he says. “Nobody could take their eyes off them, they were an intimidating band to follow, and I knew I loved them immediately. “We are very proud to be putting out this stand alone single on YALA!, a beautiful and vital piece of music by one of the country’s most important rising bands.” Yak are set to head out on a huge UK tour this Autumn.
